Nestor Almeida, MD


Dr. Nestor Almeida graduated from the Universidad Industrial de Santander, Bucaramanga, Colombia in 1993. He did his first training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at the Universidad de Antioquia, in Medellin, Colombia. After moving to the States, he worked in basic research nephrology in Osmo-regulation at the University of Colorado- Denver, with Dr. Tomas Berl. There, He was awarded a Supplemental Minority Grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH) to study COX-2 inhibitors and Osmo-regulation.

Dr. Almeida did his Internal Medicine training in New York, at Saint John’s Episcopal Hospital, South Shore Program-Affiliated to SUNY, in Far Rockaway, NY. He served as Associated Chief Resident and received Dr. Cuni Award as the best resident of 2011. He completed his Nephrology Fellowship in the Clinical Research Track at the Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

He worked in Saint George, UT for about 2 years and 6 months. Dr. Almeida was affiliated with Dixie Regional Medical Center and Cedar City Hospital. He worked as a nephrologist attending in outpatient and in-patient settings. He has experience in Hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, Home dialysis, and critical care nephrology Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy. He started and managed the in-patient Plasmapheresis/Therapeutic Plasma Exchange Program at Dixie Regional Medical Center. In addition, He has also experience in “the daily bread and butter” outpatient kidney diseases management, including: primary and secondary glomerulo-nephritides, resistant and secondary hypertension, medical management of patients in different stages of Chronic kidney Disease (CKD), anemia and CDK,  CKD-related bone-metabolic diseases, Lupus, etc. As well as working with patients with electrolytes, acid base disorders, and some genetic kidney diseases including: polycystic kidney disease, Batters, Gitelman’s, atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (a-HUS), etc. He has experience in management of kidney transplant patients, from different transplant program but especially with the transplant programs from the University of Utah and Intermountain.

Now Dr. Almeida is joining the Revere Health family and he will be happy to work with you and helping to manage your kidney and hypertension issues. His personal experiences, clinical and research training have given him a solid framework for coming to Provo with a renewed interest in this passionate and continuously evolving field of the medicine.

CAHPS surveys are funded and overseen by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) within the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Patients receive the nine-question survey via email or phone call, and we publish provider ratings on Revere Health's website once he or she has at least 30 completed surveys.
