About Capillary Malformations

A stork bite is a very common type of a birthmark located on the back of the neck at the base of the scalp. An angel’s kiss is a similar birthmark, but located on one of the eyelids. These birthmarks are areas where the tiny capillary blood vessels did not form correctly; this is medically termed as capillary malformation.

Are they harmful?

Capillary malformations are harmless and pose no health risk. Malformations on the eyelid usually fade completely in the first 2-5 years of life. However, capillary malformations on the neck tend to persist throughout life.
