Kavya Rao, MD


Bio	Kavya Rao, MD (she/her), completed both her Bachelor of Science degree in General Biology and her medical degree at University of California, San Diego. She then completed a Child Neurology residency and fellowship combined program at University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston. She completed her Pediatric Epilepsy fellowship at Stanford University before moving back to Utah to build her practice. Dr. Rao is board certified in Pediatric Epilepsy and Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology. She is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Rao is committed to providing each patient and family a comfortable care experience. She is an active listener and prefers when her pediatric patients of all ages and abilities contribute to forming and maintaining their own care plans. She is passionate about providing care to her epilepsy patients, and she maintains solid working relationships with the University of Utah epilepsy team, collaborating with them when needed to bring about the goal of seizure reduction or seizure freedom. She also is an LGBTQIA+ friendly physician, committed to serving as an active community role model for her patients and families by referring to everyone by their chosen names and pronouns. Dr. Rao is honored to be part of each family’s care team. Dr. Rao grew up in Sandy and Orem before moving with her family to California. She now lives in Salt Lake City with her husband and her labradoodle. When not working, Dr. Rao can be found ice skating, playing video games with her husband using the tips patients give her, or hiking with her dog.
