Nyah Brown, the 15-year-old daughter of Revere Health patient Sam Brown, was thrilled to have landed the lead role in her Junior High School play, “The Music Man.” The production was set to begin in about a week, and Nyah was excitedly preparing for her role as Marion the Librarian.
While rehearsing on stage, Nyah experienced an unfortunate trip and fall that caused swelling in her foot, accompanied by a great deal of pain. After trying to manage the injury at home for a few days with little success, Sam decided it was time to take Nyah to the Urgent Care. With the play set to begin in just a few days, he and his daughter needed fast answers and an immediate solution. Fortunately, that’s exactly what they received from Jacquelyn Fox, NP, whose quick work ensured Nyah didn’t miss showtime.
Nyah was seen at the Revere Health Provo Urgent Care by Jacquelyn on a weekday evening, a little after 5 p.m. Sam knew they were in the right hands from the first interaction.
“Jackie immediately started empathizing and wanted to get to know what happened,” Brown said. “She was really personable. She kept saying things like ‘I’m so sorry,’ and ‘Let’s see what we can do to find some answers.’”
To help diagnose Nyah’s injury, Jacquelyn contacted the Revere Health Orthopedics team to arrange for X-rays, which confirmed that Nyah’s foot was fractured. This was a devastating blow because her play was just a few days away.
Sam said normally with a diagnosis like this, other providers would have passed the buck with a referral, but not Jacquelyn.
Instead of making us wait or referring us to a specialist, she took care of us right then because our situation was unique.
A referral would have delayed Nyah’s care by several days at least, so Jacquelyn contacted the Orthopedics department again and went out of her way to find a special boot for Nyah. This option would allow her to walk and participate in the play. They had to go through several different boot options to find the right fit, but eventually they were able to find one that worked that same night.
Because of Jacqulyn’s persistence and commitment to finding a same-day solution, Nyah was able to participate in the play; she acted in six performances, dancing where she could and delighting those in the audience, especially her father and family.
“In spite of my daughter being very disappointed, Jackie was a brilliant light in the midst of some darkness for her,” Brown said. “I am very grateful for her kindness.”
