ST. GEORGE, Utah – July 31, 2020 – Stephen Kirk, MD is joining Revere Health as its newest sports medicine physician and first non-surgical sports medicine physician at Coral Desert Orthopaedics.

Kirk trained under great mentors and teachers during medical school at the University of Iowa College of Medicine, residency at the Utah Valley Family Medicine Residency, and Sports Medicine fellowship at Utah Valley Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. He is board-certified with the American Board of Family Medicine with a certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine. Kirk is also trained and certified in musculoskeletal sonography.

Before joining Revere, Kirk practiced sports medicine in Salt Lake (2012-2020). Additionally, he has been heavily involved in the sports medicine world serving as a team physician for more than a dozen teams headlined by his role as head team physician for Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake.

As a sports medicine physician, I have cared for athletes of all ages and at all levels of sport. I have been fortunate to be the team physician for professional, Olympic, collegiate, and high school athletes and teams,” said Kirk.
Considering his experiences with these teams and his routine clinic patients, he noted, “People care deeply about staying active. Whether they are a professional athlete or a weekend warrior, my goal is to help my patients manage and effectively recover from their injuries so that they can maintain longevity in the sports and physical activities they love”, said Kirk. “I’m looking forward to becoming a part of the sports medicine community in Southern Utah.”
“Dr. Kirk is a compassionate, skilled, and experienced sports medicine physician,” said Leslie Simkins, an administrator for the Coral Desert Orthopaedics department. “We are very excited to have him join our team, and we know that he will be able to help many people here in St. George.

Kirk will begin seeing patients at Coral Desert Orthopaedics beginning August 5th. He sees patients for most musculoskeletal and sports-related injuries. He has added interest in fracture care, overuse and tendon injuries, osteoarthritis, regenerative medicine, running medicine, and sports concussion. Kirk is able to use non-surgical treatments for the management of most of his patients, including ultrasound-guided injections and procedures. If surgery becomes necessary, Kirk refers patients to his surgical partners for management.
