Acute Care

Acute care is a branch of medical care that focuses on the immediate and urgent treatment of severe injury or illness. Acute care is considered the opposite of chronic, or long-term care. Typically provided in hospitals or specialized facilities where patients receive intensive and short-term medical intervention. At Revere Health, The primary goal of acute care is to stabilize patients, manage acute symptoms, and address critical health issues promptly.

A few key aspects of acute care include:
Emergency treatment – Acute care is typically seen in emergency situations, such as trauma, heart attacks, strokes, severe infections or injuries.
Short-term care – The focus of acute care is on short-term treatment. Once a patient is stabilized, they may be transitioned to other types of care, such as chronic care or rehabilitation, if needed.
Intensive monitoring – Patients in acute care settings typically require close monitoring and frequent assessments. This might include monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and performing complex procedures.
Specialized services – Acute care often requires advanced technology and specialized staff, including emergency physicians, surgeons, and critical care nurses, to handle a wide range or urgent health problems.
Hospital settings – Acute care is associated with emergency departments, intensive care units (ICUs), and specialized surgical units within hospitals. Our acute care departments typically are within Urgent Care facilities.
