Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring
Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is a non-invasive method that continuously measures blood pressure over a 24-hour period while patients go about their daily activities. This method provides a more comprehensive and accurate picture of blood pressure fluctuations than a single reading in a medical office. At Revere Health, we use ABPM to help diagnose hypertension, assess treatment effectiveness, and detect conditions like white-coat hypertension (elevated readings in the office but not at home).
When Is ABPM Recommended?
ABPM is useful for:
Diagnosing hypertension and detecting white-coat or masked hypertension.
Monitoring the effectiveness of blood pressure treatments.
Evaluating blood pressure during daily activities and sleep.
How ABPM Works
A blood pressure cuff is worn around the upper arm, connected to a small device that takes readings every 15-30 minutes throughout the day and less frequently at night. You continue your normal routine while the device collects data, which is later analyzed by your doctor.
Benefits of ABPM
More accurate and consistent readings than office visits alone.
Helps tailor hypertension treatment to your daily needs.
Detects blood pressure patterns, especially during sleep or daily activities.
