Biopsies

Biopsy services are offered at Revere Health to help diagnose and monitor health conditions. A biopsy involves removing a small sample of tissue for laboratory analysis, allowing healthcare providers to identify the presence and severity of diseases, such as cancer, liver disorders, or blood cell abnormalities. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that each procedure is performed with precision and patient comfort in mind.

Why Are Biopsies Performed?
Biopsies are essential diagnostic tools used when imaging tests, blood work, or physical examinations reveal areas of concern. They help determine the exact nature of an abnormality and guide treatment decisions. Common reasons for a biopsy include investigating unexplained lumps, assessing suspicious lesions, or diagnosing organ-specific diseases such as liver inflammation or bone marrow disorders.

Types of Biopsies We Offer
Our providers are skilled in performing several types of biopsies to meet individual patient needs:

Needle Biopsies: This minimally invasive technique uses a thin needle to remove a small tissue sample from a suspicious area, such as a breast lump or a thyroid nodule. Needle biopsies are often performed with ultrasound or CT guidance to ensure accurate placement.

Liver Biopsies: Liver biopsies are used to diagnose and stage liver conditions such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, or fatty liver disease. They can also evaluate the effectiveness of treatments for liver diseases. During a liver biopsy, a needle is inserted through the abdomen to collect a small piece of liver tissue.

Bone Marrow Biopsies: Bone marrow biopsies are performed to diagnose blood-related disorders like leukemia or to monitor conditions affecting blood cell production. This procedure involves removing a small core of bone marrow, usually from the hip bone, and is typically done under local anesthesia.

Surgical Biopsies: For larger or deeper tissue samples, surgical biopsies may be recommended. These biopsies are performed in an operating room setting, often under general anesthesia, and may involve removing an entire lump or section of tissue for examination.

What to Expect During and After a Biopsy
Most biopsies are outpatient procedures, meaning you can go home the same day. Before the procedure, your provider will discuss the type of biopsy, potential risks, and any specific instructions, such as fasting or medication adjustments. Depending on the biopsy type, a local anesthetic may be used to numb the area, and you may feel only slight pressure or discomfort.

After the biopsy, it’s common to experience mild soreness or bruising at the site, which usually resolves in a few days. Our team provides thorough post-procedure instructions to help you manage any discomfort and ensure a smooth recovery. Results are typically available within a few days, and your provider will review them with you to discuss next steps.

Biopsies play a crucial role in early detection and treatment planning, helping us provide you with the highest level of care. If you need a biopsy or have questions about the procedure, reach out to Revere Health to learn more about how we can support your health journey.
