Urinary Tract Infections

Care for urinary tract infections (UTIs) is available at Revere Health. UTIs are common and often painful infections that affect the urinary system, including the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. They typically occur when bacteria, such as E. coli, enter the urinary tract and multiply, leading to symptoms like a persistent urge to urinate, burning sensations during urination, cloudy or strong-smelling urine, and pelvic discomfort.

Understanding UTIs
UTIs are classified based on the location of the infection:

Cystitis: An infection in the bladder, often causing lower abdominal discomfort, frequent urination, and blood in the urine.
Urethritis: Involves inflammation of the urethra, primarily causing pain and a burning sensation during urination.
Pyelonephritis: A more serious infection that affects the kidneys and can lead to fever, chills, nausea, and back or side pain.

Treatment Options
Treatment usually involves a course of antibiotics, which should be started promptly to prevent complications. Our providers may recommend pain relievers and increased fluid intake to support recovery. For patients with recurrent UTIs, further evaluation may be necessary to identify underlying causes and develop a prevention strategy.

If you’re experiencing symptoms of a UTI or have recurrent infections, contact Revere Health for an evaluation. Early intervention can help alleviate discomfort and prevent complications.
