Weight Loss Management Program FAQs

What is your weight loss program?

We are committed to helping you maintain a healthy lifestyle and weight. Our program consists of a series of visits that focus on helping you overcome dietary, physical, and emotional barriers to successful weight loss. In each visit, you’ll meet with a physician and either a health coach, dietician, or fitness specialist.

How much weight can I expect to lose as part of your program?

Results vary, but by focussing on sustainable weight loss through a healthy lifestyle, most people should expect to lose 5 to 10% of their current weight. Many will lose more. Based on your Body Composition Test, (see Program Basics) we can accurately determine the amount of fat mass it would be healthy for you to lose.

Is any specific diet recommended?Weight_Loss_Program_copy

Many dietary approaches are reviewed as part of our program. Our dieticians focus on creating a diet that is right for you and maintainable over time. People often lose weight with fad diets, but rarely keep the weight off. We use OPTIFAST® products for patients who qualify for a low-calorie diet and chose that option. Meeting personally with our physicians and dieticians is essential to discovering what will be most applicable to you.

Are medications for weight loss used as part of your program?

There are several medications approved by the FDA for the treatment of obesity. As part of our program, we will review if any of these options are appropriate for you. However, our philosophy is that there is no “magic pill” for weight loss and the focus should always be on lifestyle changes that are sustainable over time.

Will my insurance cover this program?

Insurance coverage for obesity varies by carrier. Always verify with your insurance what they do and do not cover. We will bill your visits as regular office visits and expect that the majority will be paid with no problem.

Will my primary care provider be involved in my weight loss program?

Successful weight loss typically involves a team approach. We can send your doctor updates on how you are doing with each visit and may ask them to help with managing chronic conditions that affect your weight and overall fitness.
