Cardiac MRI

Cardiac MRI is a noninvasive imaging procedure that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed pictures of the heart and blood vessels. This advanced technology allows for precise visualization of the heart’s structure, function, and blood flow, making it an essential tool for diagnosing and monitoring various heart conditions. Cardiac MRI can help detect heart muscle abnormalities, congenital heart defects, and issues with blood flow or heart valves. At Revere Health, our cardiology team uses cardiac MRI to provide comprehensive evaluations and guide personalized treatment plans for patients with cardiovascular conditions.

When Is Cardiac MRI Recommended?
Cardiac MRI is often used to evaluate a range of heart conditions, including:

Cardiomyopathy: To assess the size, thickness, and function of the heart muscle.
Congenital Heart Defects: For detailed imaging of structural abnormalities present at birth.
Heart Valve Issues: To evaluate the function and structure of heart valves.
Coronary Artery Disease: To detect areas of reduced blood flow or previous damage from a heart attack.
Pericardial Disease: To assess inflammation or fluid buildup around the heart.

What to Expect During a Cardiac MRI
During the procedure, you will lie on a table that slides into the MRI machine. Electrodes may be placed on your chest to monitor your heart rate, and a contrast dye may be injected to enhance the visibility of certain structures. The machine will capture detailed images of the heart, and you may be asked to hold your breath briefly to ensure clear pictures. The process is painless, though you may hear loud noises from the machine. Ear protection is provided to help minimize discomfort.

Benefits of Cardiac MRI
Noninvasive and Radiation-Free: Uses magnets and radio waves instead of X-rays.
Detailed Imaging: Provides clear images of heart tissues, blood vessels, and surrounding structures.
Accurate Diagnoses: Helps identify subtle abnormalities that may not be visible on other imaging tests.
