Summer Activities in Utah

Part of living a healthy life is being active, and there are plenty of ways you can get some exercise in the Utah summer. With all the options for exercise in Utah, you’ll never be at a loss for something fun and healthy to get involved in. Here are seven great things you can do, either by yourself or with your family, in order to get moving and enjoy the beautiful weather in your state.

1) Hiking

There are plenty of great places to hike throughout Utah, including Rock Canyon, Bells Canyon Waterfall and Little Wild Horse Canyon & Bell Canyon Trailhead. When you hike, you use a lot of different muscle groups, along with improving your cardiovascular fitness—it’s a total body workout.

2) Camping

You can camp all over Utah, from Zion National Park to Moab to Monument Valley. They all have beautiful areas where you can camp with a tent, and many places also have space for RVs and travel trailers. Camping can help you get back to nature, lower your blood pressure and give you a chance to be peaceful and relaxed while still getting some physical exercise.

3) Fishing

It’s very relaxing to fish, and that can be good for your mental health. If you like to fish, consider the Blue Ribbon Rivers. They are excellent choices for spending time outdoors, and fish can be healthy food, too. If you camp and fish, you may be able to cook what you catch and enjoy a campfire meal with family and friends.

4) Walking

Some great places for walking are the Provo Walking Trail and Bonneville Shoreline Trail. The goal of Bonneville is to eventually have the trail go all the way from the Idaho border to Nephi, Utah, giving people all throughout the state a chance to enjoy it. Most people can walk even if they can’t do a lot of strenuous physical activity, and walking is a great way to get started on being healthier.

5) Rock Climbing

For the more adventurous, rock climbing can be a great choice. It requires you to use a lot of different muscles, and that can give you an overall workout that’s going to improve your health. It also test mental skills, and can give you a strong sense of accomplishment.

6) Running Community 5Ks

If you like to run, Utah has plenty of options for you. There are 5Ks all over the state, and there are also marathons and other runs to enjoy. Whether you’re an experienced runner or you’re just getting started, running can really improve your cardiovascular health and your sense of wellbeing.

7) Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is another popular Utah sport. Most ski resorts allow mountain biking so you don’t have to bike uphill, but check with the resort you’re considering to be sure. According to the International Mountain Biking Association, there are at least 40 million people in the U.S. who mountain bike every year. You could be one of them, and biking is a wonderful way to get a look at beautiful scenery and also get plenty of exercise at the same time.
